چکیده

Discussion Our patient has a vascular lesion of the brain which looks like an AVM though the images do not clearly demonstrate the nidus of the AVM. Th e ‘snake’ is actually the large draining vein and not the AVM nidus. Giant AVMs are diffi cult to treat and oft en carry higher treatment morbidity and mortality rates than do smaller ones. Patients Dear Sir, A 45-year-old male presented to our emergency room with headache. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the brain (source images from the magnetic resonance angiogram, MRA) and a maximum intensity projection MRA showed a left occipital lobe giant arteriovenous malformation (AVM; fi gs. 1–3 ). Generating the synthetic CT (sCT) and synthetic MR (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) images of the brain using atlas based method

Introduction: Radiation therapy planning (RTP) is one of the clinical applications in which both CT scan and MRI are used. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculation of dose distribution, respectively. In addition, using two imaging modalities increases the department workload and cost. In this study, an algorithm was presented to create synthet...

Qualitative evaluation of filter function in brain SPECT [Persian]

Introduction: Filtering can greatly affect the quality of clinical images. Determining the best filter and the proper degree of smoothing can help to ensure the most accurate diagnosis. Methods: Forty five patient’s data aquired during brain phantom SPECT studies were reconstructed using filtered back-projection technique. The ramp, Shepp-Logan, Cosine, Hamming, Hanning, Butterworth, Metz...

P 25: The Facilitatory Action of Snake Venom Phospholipase A2 Neurotoxins by Which Increase the Release of Acetylcholine, May Improve Alzheimer\'s Disease Symptoms

Introduction: In a serious brain disorder like Alzheimer's disease, the levels of acetylcholine (Ach) drop significantly. The gradual death of cholinergic brain cells leads to a profound loss of memory and learning ability. Acetylcholine is the chemical messenger that sends messages from one neuron to another in the area of the brain used for memory. Many of the current medications act to enhan...

Generating Synthetic Computed Tomography and Synthetic Magnetic Resonance (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) Images of the Brain Using Atlas-Based Method

Introduction: Nowadays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in combination with computed-tomography (CT) is increasingly being used in radiation therapy planning. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculate dose distribution, respectively. Since the use of these two imaging modalities causes registration uncertainty and increases department w...

Comparison of Two Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Measurement Methods Used For Anatomical Localization of the Iron-Incorporated Deep Brain Nuclei

Introduction Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) is a new contrast mechanism in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The images produced by the QSM enable researchers and clinicians to easily localize specific structures of the brain, such as deep brain nuclei. These nuclei are targets in many clinical applications and therefore their easy localization is a must. In this study, we aimed to i...
